Beacon Pharma begins journey of Cephalosporin
Beacon Pharma has begun producing a high-quality lifesaving third generation antibiotic cephalosporin drugs from its dedicated Cephalosporin Plant set up in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque inaugurated the operation of the plant on around three acres of land in the area on August 20, 2020 and expressed his good wishes for the plant to provide a high-quality drug in order to save mankind both locally and globally.
Mohammad Ebadul Karim MP, managing director of Beacon Medicare Limited, highlighted the technological aspects of the plant to meet the latest demand of such drugs at home and abroad.
Beacon Pharmaceuticals Ltd. is the first manufacturer of anticancer drugs in Bangladesh, set up the plant by maintaining guidelines of the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) of the EU and Food and Drug Administration of the US.
The plant has been designed and built by ensuring health safety of the workers and avoiding the cross-contamination in other drugs during its preparation. The plant has a capacity in manufacturing all ranges and forms of Cephalosporin drugs.
There are around 20 forms of cephalosporin like tablet, capsule, syrup and injection and the plant is well equipped with the high-class technology to manufacture all the forms of the drugs.
Cephalosporin is a bactericidal (kill bacteria) and work in a similar way to penicillin. They bind to and block the activity of enzymes responsible for making peptidoglycan, an important component of the bacterial cell wall.

Cephalosporin is used to treat the people affected with bone, ear, skin, upper respiratory tract and urinary tract infection and others.
